A Wondercrump trip

This term we have been celebrating the life of Roald Dahl in what would have been his 100th year. Each class has a topic which is either based on or contains elements of his work. Class 2 have chosen to use The BFG as their class text. They have made natural BFG’s and investigated their super giant senses in the forest school. They have created ‘Giants’ non-fiction books, invented new giants and have participated in lots of other exciting activities.

The whole school took part in our Roald Dahl week. This was kicked off by a brilliant story teller, who told us the story of ‘The Twits’. The week culminated in a fantastic party, at which all children dressed up in the most amazing Roald Dahl inspired costumes. During this week we officially opened our exciting new library.

Classes 2, 3, 4 and 5 were lucky enough to visit ‘The Wondercrump World of Roald Dahl’ exhibition at the Cardiff Millennium Centre. The exhibition consisted of a series of rooms which told of the life of Roald Dahl. We travelled through a large red curtain into Roald’s school room, complete with magical letters. Here we learnt about his unhappy school life and read his ‘Satisfactory’ school reports.

Other rooms included: a desert room, with a sand floor, which explained about his plane crash over Libya, a dark and spooky forest room in which we were surrounded by trees and hooting owls, and an inventing room with story making and dressing-up activities. All classes participated in brilliant workshops based on ‘The BFG’ and ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ books. All children thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite the early start!
