In Key Stage 2 at Great Bedwyn School, pupils learn French with a strong emphasis on developing basic skills in speaking and listening through fun, engaging practical activities.  Pupils learn to ask and answer questions about themselves and familiar aspects of daily life as well as learning songs and rhymes to promote understanding and develop good pronunciation.  Pupils also begin to read and write basic words and phrases.

Our pupils are encouraged to see themselves as part of a much wider world so, through topic work or the sharing of personal experiences, pupils will often learn words and phrases from other modern languages: for example a topic on Romans may include a study of modern day Italy and the exploration of some basic Italian greetings.

Our aim is to ensure pupils have a good foundation in basic French and are interested, enthused and intrigued about developing this further, or indeed in finding out about other languages, when they move on to Secondary School.
